Make Data Directories - Tool for MasterTask Training Systems CD-ROM Training Programs Documentation - 4/3/2004 (Tested under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Not yet tested under Windows 98/95 or Windows ME.) The "Make Data Directories" tools are provided to customers of MasterTask Training Systems for users of Mastering CNC Lathes (MCL), Mastering CNC Machining Centers (MCM), and Precision Measurement for Machinists (PMM). Explanation: ------------ When any of these programs run, they expect a specific set of nested folders (directories) to exist in a preset location for the automatic generation of the data files used by the program. The programs generate the data files, such as student names, test scores, and so on, automatically. The required folders for those data files to be stored in, however, must already exist when the program runs. If they do not exist, or if they are moved or renamed, or if they are set to read-only, the program will generate error messages. Normally these "data folders" are generated when the program is installed using the installers provided on CD-ROM. Occasionally, however, the need arises to construct a new, empty set of data folders without having to reinstall the program. For example, if a server crashes and the shared data folders are wiped out, or if someone accidentally deletes the existing data folders, then a new set of data folders must be created. In order to create the new, empty set of data folders, use the "Make Data Directories" tool for that program (MCM, MCL or PMM). How to use: ---------- Download the correct file for the Training Program. Program: File: MCL Mdd_Mcl.exe MCM Mdd_Mcm.exe PMM Mdd_Pmm.exe Copy the downloaded file to the location where the new set of data folders are to be created. For example, if on a server the data folders are to be placed inside the folder C:\MasterTask\Pmmsrvr\, copy the downloaded file to that folder. If on a non-networked computer, typically the data folders would be placed inside the main application folder, such as C:\Program Files\MasterTask\Mcm15\ for Mastering CNC Machining Centers. Once the file is in the correct location, simply double-click the file to run it. A root "data folder" will be created with the required set of nested sub- folders inside of that folder. File: Root Data Folder: Mdd_Mcl.exe \MclData Mdd_Mcm.exe \McmData Mdd_Pmm.exe \PmmData The downloaded file can then be deleted. If the downloaded "Make Data Directories" file is run where an set of data directories already exists, it will not overwrite the existing folders/files. Instead, an error message will be generated in a DOS prompt window.
