Winter Thread Roll Attachment
The following lesson outline details the tasks needed to be a machinist when using the Winter Thread Roll Attachment.
Some of these tasks require the trainee to explain how something works to insure they have the required
understanding of the processes and are not simply memorizing procedures. All of the tasks listed will be a part of
the Performance Test within each lesson. To learn more about these tests and the training process itself, see the
Philosophy section.
Lesson 1: Basic Machine Components; Lubrication; Operation [ Top ]
After completing this lesson the operator will be able to correctly perform the following tasks:
- Remove the thread rolls.
- Inspect the drive gears and remove them.
- Remove and replace the compensator.
- Remove and replace the wedge rollers and return spring.
- Mount the tool arms into the head.
- Mount and match the thread rolls.
- Mount the wedge to the air cylinder and the adapter to the head to suit the brand of machine being used.
Lesson 2: Setting Up the Machine [ Top ]
After completing this lesson the operator will be able to correctly perform the following tasks:
- Mount dwell cam.
- Set the position of the cross slide using the micrometer setting gauge.
- Adjust positive stop tension.
- Setup the coarse thread depth on attachment prior to mounting.
- Mount the attachment to the cross slide.
- Adjust thread depth to produce first piece.
- Adjust the compensator as necessary to cause the thread rolls to be properly matched.
- Adjust the thread depth control to produce a fully formed thread.
- Fill and adjust the oil mist system.
- Adjust "IN" valve and coolant line as required.
