Your decision to delete an existing program in order to load a new program must be a careful one. Once you have deleted a program, it cannot be recovered from within the memory of the control.
You can only recover deleted programs by loading them back into the control from an external source or by re-writing them from scratch
Therefore, any program you delete should either be backed up or small enough to be re-written quickly and easily.
Depending upon the parameter set-up of the control, there may some programs which the control will not allow you to delete. On Fanuc controls, a parameter can be set to protect programs with part numbers from O8000 to O8999 or O9000 to O9999.
When choosing programs for deletion, look first at the size of the program for the new job. This information should be included in the set-up documentation for the job. In this example, the new program will require 1187 bytes of space within the memory of the control.
If this information is not included in the set-up documents, you may be able to check the size of the new program by viewing a directory of the source diskette or computer. On most controls, you can call up this directory much in the same way as the program directory for the control itself.
This DRCTRY FLOPPY soft key appears on Fanuc models 10- through 15M. In order to view the contents of a floppy disk on these Fanuc controls, press this soft key instead of the DRCTRY MEMORY soft key.
As you learned in the previous lesson, on Okuma controls, the floppy disk directory is specified by entering FD0: at the console line.
When the WRITE key is pressed, a program directory for the current floppy disk will appear, showing the size of each program the diskette contains.
Mazak users can view the contents of a floppy disk by calling up the DATA IN/OUT display for the Mazak CMT drive. However, before calling up this display
you must first prepare the CMT drive by setting the track number you wish to view.
Enter the track number using the keypad on the CMT.
