Administrator: This person has the highest level password. It enables them to create classes, assign Instructors and gives them access to all the training records. Most the functions assigned to Instructors can also be performed by the Administrator. This person may be from Plant Management, Human Resources, Training, or other management positions. In smaller shops the Administrator and Instructor may be the same person.

Instructor: This may be a shift supervisor, lead person, trainer or others. They can enter trainee's names into classes and assign CNC control types to each, establish trainee passwords, check records, and so on. An instructor may have more than one class assigned to them by the Administrator, as indicated by Instructor 3 in the above chart. There are no limits to the number of classes or trainees. A class can consist of one trainee or hundreds as needed. The records of all the students enrolled in an instructor's classes are accessible to them. The instructor screen, and others, include help files to explain how to use the menu selections.

Trainees: Individuals are registered in the course from either the Instructor or Administrator screens. For convenience, they can be assigned to a group. These group names might be created by using the shift or department number or even a plant location. Any number of trainees can be entered into a group. A custom ID field is also provided which might be used for an employee number. At the top of many management pages is a FIND function. Searches can be performed for individuals or groups of trainees by selecting their group name, class, or searching by their names or custom ID.

Classes and Passwords: Once trainees are registered, either in a group or individually, they can be "enrolled" in a class. When enrolling trainees, either a single CNC control type can be chosen for the whole class or each trainee can be assigned different control types. Beside each trainee name is the "Machine" column. The letters correspond to the control types listed above, for example "Z" stands for the Fanuc Zero T type of controls. These options provide real power in designing the course to fit the needs of each group and the individuals within it. When the Administrator sets up the class, a user name and password are established for the instructor that they will use to perform all of the class management functions. Each trainee will also have a user name and password they must enter to access their instruction and testing. There are no "seat licenses" since any computer with a current web browser can be used for accessing the courseware. Likewise, there are no "site licenses" since students can access the course from any location.

Instructional Options: While a variety of techniques can be used, it is recommended that trainees receive the Student Guide Work Sheets at the beginning of each Unit. Direct the trainees to read the Work Sheet questions for a module before they sign on to the training web site. This will prepare them to focus on the content they must acquire from the module. These Work Sheets can be graded by the Instructor using the pages on the web site for the answers. Once the Work Sheet is correct, the trainee can begin the online test. The answers to all questions are available on the Instructor's pages. They also have access to all the Trainee records to see how they are progressing.

The recommended technique for developing machinists in-plant is self-paced instruction. It can be administered easily by establishing classes and simply assigning trainees as required. With this concept, every trainee can achieve a perfect score on each test. The 100% approach recommended by MasterTask is the one of the key reasons for the success reported by firms using these courses.

Pretests and Other Functions: Pretesting can be done with the Student Guide Work Sheets. You can select the Units and Modules to be included in your pretest. Then certain test questions within the interactive test for a section can be left active so that the Work Sheet questions that will be printed will only cover the topics you decide. Printing the Work Sheet once will provide a master that can be duplicated for future use.

The Tests can also be turned off with the Activity Status feature leaving just the instruction on. This might be used if you wanted to have a class that was used for informing people about the subject matter but you did not want to test them. For example, other employees and management might wish to learn more about CNC lathe processes, but not the skilled tasks.

Communication Tools: When entering trainees, the instructor can enter an e-mail address for each person. The instructor can then communicate with individual trainees or the whole class by e-mail. Trainees can also e-mail the instructor, if necessary.

Reporting Features: Class and Student reports can be generated and printed by either the Instructor or Administrator. To learn more about the content of these reports click on REPORTS above.

"I've done a lot of the programming and I was very impressed with the course. It covered a lot more than I realized." Steve Zuzek, Midwest Screw Products.
